We will investigate Icelandic Viking pottery and the possible uses of clay. Academic literature claims that it was not used in Iceland for pottery, but we would like to investigate this a little more with modern knowledge of geology, ceramics and archaeology, although the results are uncertain. We would also like to investigate whether Icelandic clay is suitable for uses other than pottery, i.e. using it as a building material like it was done in other places in Europe during the settlement era, but that is also completely uncertain and it will be exciting to look at all this with an open mind and without expectations of one outcome or another.
This will be a festival of experiences where a select team of experts will come from all over Miðgard to join us in the experiments. Follow the event and see who will join us for this fun and educational weekend.
