Join us in Ornavik from August 13th to 15th for three days of festivities at the 3rd annual “Duchy of Normandy Festival.” The program includes entertainment, hands-on workshops, scavenger hunts, and mini-conferences with our guides. Children and adults alike can try their hand at archery, building Viking palisades and tents, and enjoy combat demonstrations presented by the 11th-century reenactment group “Dex Aïe” and the “Ran Normaund” company. Using a diorama depicting the battlefield and lead soldiers, the famous Battle of Hastings will be recounted by the “Chantres et Chroniqueurs” association, who will reveal the soldiers’ movements, the characteristics of the two armies, the context of the battle, and the events that led to the Duke of Normandy’s victory over King Harold. Following the Carolingian village and the Viking trading post, the ducal period takes shape with its motte-and-bailey castle and wooden keep.
