During the three days of the Builders’ Festival, numerous workshops and activities are offered: – “Add Your Stone to the Building.” Stonecutting, leveling, building a dry stone wall, making bricks for the church—come contribute your energy and leave your mark on Ornavik by participating in its construction. – “The Secrets of the Builders.” Around the church construction site, listen to the carpenters and stonemasons to learn or relearn various techniques: shingle roofing, stone carving, and semicircular arches. At the Viking workshop, try your hand at thatching a section of the roof. – “Budding Builders.” In the park, younger children can participate with our instructors in workshops on building palisades, Viking tents, and fire boxes, as well as listening to stories, solving mysteries, and playing treasure hunts. – “In the castle courtyard.” In the ducal area, discover the world of knights around the motte-and-bailey castle, mint your own medieval coins, and learn about leatherwork and embroidery. – “The fisherman’s shipyard.” On the Viking trading post, a ship is under construction. Come and discover the setup of this shipyard and the stages of building a Viking ship.
