Site Overview
A living history museum where the Viking Age comes alive
At SVEG open air museum there is an entire late Viking-Age town. It has been reconstructed using the materials and techniques of the time, as historically-accurate as it can be, based on the archaeological and historical source materials that are available.
It is not a traditional museum as one is normally perceived. There are no glass display cases, no halls with marble floors, no descriptive signs and not even a traditional museum building. So the town is not made up of movie backdrops but of real, solid habitable houses, lived in by volunteers who have an interest in making the Viking Age come alive and allowing visitors to see how life might have been about a thousand years ago.
The core of the town population is made up of members of the association SVEGs Byalag (Scandinavian Viking Explorer Group's village community).
